Role

The Accelerated Learning Project (ALP), an initiative of the DG Murray Trust, works to close foundational learning gaps in literacy and numeracy for learners who have fallen behind. Through evidence-based approaches such as Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL), ALP supports learners, educators, and communities to improve learning outcomes and strengthen education systems across South Africa. The Training Coordinator will play a critical role in strengthening training and capacity-building across the ALP programme. Based in Cape Town and working closely with the Training and Programmes Manager and the core ALP team, the Training Coordinator will support the design, coordination, delivery, and monitoring of training activities for implementers and partners across multiple provinces.

As ALP continues to expand and scale across provinces, we are looking for a dedicated, proactive and dynamic Training Coordinator to support high-quality implementation.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Sciences, Education, Training, Development studies or a related field.
  • 2-5 years' experience coordinating community development or education projects
  • Strong skills in training facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination
  • Experience with literacy and numeracy interventions or similar education programmes
  • Experience working with schools, community-based implementors and community organisations
  • Excellent computer skills, including use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Bilingual, with proficiency in at least one of the following languages spoken in ALP communities (IsiZulu, Setswana, Afrikaans)
  • Proven ability to plan, monitor, and report on programmes
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
  • Confident and able to share ideas.
  • Able to anticipate key needs and act independently to solve problems
  • High degree of flexibility and responsiveness to evolving needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) or similar methodologies
Responsibilities

Day to day functions of the Accelerated Learning Project, Cape Town, South Africa and surrounding communities. These include:

  • Conduct needs analysis of implementors, and plan capacity building activities tailored to their needs
  • Work closely with the Training and Programmes Manager to align training plans with programme objectives and implementation timelines.
  • Coordinate and deliver high quality training for programme implementors, including coordinators, teachers, mentors, facilitators and implementing partners.
  • Provide ongoing capacity building through refresher trainings, coaching, mentoring and monitoring
  • Contribute to the review, adaptation and development of training materials, guides and implementation resources
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including schools, communities, government, implementing partners and suppliers.
  • Support monitoring of programme fidelity through observations, feedback, and reflection sessions.
  • Work closely with the M&E team to ensure accurate data collection, reporting, and quality assurance.
  • Develop and submit reports on training, implementation progress, and lessons learned
  • Contribute to the overall ALP programme planning, project design, adaptation, monitoring and evaluation as well as problem solving initiatives.

  • Be based in Cape Town or be willing to relocate
  • A valid South African driver's licence (held for more than one year)
  • Confident and competent driver, able to travel and drive independently to rural and per urban communities
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across provinces
