Clinical Care Coordinator - Oncology Management
Job Description
Location: Centurion, Gauteng
Purpose: As an Oncology Care Coordinator, you will provide critical clinical support, patient navigation, and care coordination to beneficiaries undergoing oncology treatment. You will be a central point of contact for beneficiaries, assisting them through diagnosis, chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and survivorship or palliative pathways. This role also requires effective management of clinical and operational queries, ensuring timely, accurate, and supportive responses to beneficiaries, providers, and internal teams.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Oncology specific training (e.g., Oncology management, Palliative Care) is an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of the SA healthcare market, PMBs, and managed care principles.
- 2 to 5 years' experience in:
- Oncology nursing or oncology case management
- Managed care, health risk management, or chronic disease coordination
- Medical scheme or healthcare administration (advantageous)
- Experience working within the medical scheme or healthcare administration environment is an advantage
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct clinical assessments and monitor beneficiaries' oncology treatment journeys
- Review treatment plans, pathology results, imaging reports, and staging information
- Support beneficiaries with education, treatment navigation, and symptom management
- Provide emotional support and guidance throughout the oncology care continuum
- Liaise with oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, and multidisciplinary teams
- Facilitate referrals to supportive care services
- Manage and resolve beneficiary and provider queries within agreed turnaround times
- Investigate clinical queries through detailed review of medical records and care history
- Document all interactions accurately in care management systems
- Escalate high risk cases or unresolved queries to the Team Leader
- Strong understanding of oncology clinical pathways and treatment regimens
- Excellent communication, empathy, and counselling skills
- Solid clinical judgement and risk assessment capability
- Strong administrative and documentation accuracy
- Ability to manage emotionally sensitive conversations
- Analytical thinking and strong problem solving abilities
- Computer literacy and comfort using clinical systems
- Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary and fast paced environment
