Job Purpose

CPUT is recruiting a Compliance Officer for its entity, South African Renewable Energy Technology (SARETEC) for a period three months. The overall objective is to conduct a structured compliance intervention to strengthen SARETEC's Quality Management System (QMS) in its ISO 9001 reaccreditation and GWO reaccreditation compliance framework through:

  • Formal Internal Audit
  • Audit Readiness Preparation
  • Targeted Framework Correction

This role is corrective and preparatory in nature, not a full system rebuild.
The Compliance Officer shall conduct a formal internal audit of SARETEC's Quality Management System against ISO 9001:2015 requirements; Conduct an internal compliance review against applicable GWO standards; Review document control processes, version control practices, and records management; Review risk registers, corrective action logs, and management review records; Assess compliance with institutional governance requirements.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Quality Management, Industrial Engineering and or equivalent qualification.
  • Project Management and ISO 9001 experience is a must.
  • 2 - 3 years of experience relevant experiments (Experience with maintaining a Quality Management System in line with ISO would be advantageous).
  • Completed short courses in either ISO9001 Quality / ISO45001 Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) or other related ISO standards.
  • Have strong organisational, planning and project management skills.
  • Previous exposure in implementing an ISO certification (9001 and/or 18001) would be advantageous

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

Reporting to the Director, the appointed Compliance Officer will be responsible for among others:

  • Immediately conduct internal audit on SARETEC's Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 (i.e., identify the risk and implement control measures required).
  • Ensure document management as required by the Quality Management System In preparation of the upcoming external audit, review and update of internal SARETEC procedures for alignment and or compliance with ISO 9001, SARETEC internal procedures.
  • and CPUT policies (i.e., coordinate, update and or generate the records of conformance).
  • Coordinate the implementation of all the necessary measures across the SARETEC Departments and Teams to verify the effectiveness of the implemented controls to achieve the intended output as per the outcome of the internal audit.
  • Improve the controls where necessary to enhance the ability (i.e., putting systems in place where gaps have been identified).
  • Conduct Management review as necessary.
  • Plan interactions with the SARETEC Team / Departments and regularly reporting to SARETEC management regarding the Quality Management System (QMS), Occupational Health Safety (OHS) system and Global Wind Organisation (GWO) system.
  • Provide support and expertise to line management ensuring all documentation is updated and the required corrective measures are in place.
  • Conduct an internal workshop with the Training Department to ensure compliance with the systems across the ISO 9001.
  • Implement and maintain all required Documents, Records, Templates, Flowcharts, Processes including the Occupational Health and Safety file.
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager to manage GWO Audit checklist and monitor the implementation of related measures in relations to all active contracts / agreements, renewal and liaison with the parties with contracts.
  • Ensure document version control and records management in terms of IS0 9001 standards are all updated and to perform other tasks, as requested by line-manager, in line with the role.
  • Project management and Quality Management skills
  • ISO9001: 2015 understanding and other related international standard
  • Internal Auditing skills and understanding external audits processes and requirements
  • Excellent communication (verbal and writing)., listening skills, and Interpersonal skills and able to communicate appropriately with all levels of personnel.
  • Very good written communication, including clear, concise e-mail communication, adept at writing reports and policies.
  • Being organised, methodical and planning skills
  • Paying attention to detail
  • Able to manage stress and high-pressure situations.
  • Able to handle multiple projects, prioritise work and work effectively under minimal supervision
  • Good team player and able to balance team and individual responsibilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, etc.).
