RESEARCH AND INNOVATION MANAGER: POST HARVEST

Fruitways is a leading agri-business in South Africa. We specialise in the growing, packing and marketing of apples and pears to retailers, traders and wholesalers around the globe.

Reporting to the GM: Technical Services, this opportunity is suited to a driven and technically strong professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The Research & Innovation Manager will join our Packing Division in Grabouw and play a key role in advancing innovation within a progressive and quality-focused operation.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate and initiate evaluation of new storage, sorting and packing technologies.
  • Explore and initiate innovation in packing formats and packaging materials
  • Oversee fruit storage and handling trials
  • Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with service providers of sorting, packing and storage technologies.
  • Implementation of new developments in collaboration with the operations management team.
  • Manage and motivate a small post-harvest Research & Innovation team
Requirements
  • BSc Qualification in Engineering or Agriculture
  • 5 Years experience in a similar or equivalent role
  • Understanding of scientific principles and practical application thereof
  • Computer literate (Advanced Excel and operational system experience)
  • Project Management skills
