Senior Consultant (Commissioning, Operatoinal Readiness, Ramp-up and Excellence)

The HATCH Commissioning, OR, & Ramp up Excellence Team in Johannesburg is on the lookout for Senior Consultants to lead high impact client engagements workstreams within larger programmes, delivering high-quality Operational Readiness and Ramp Up outcomes for clients.

This role requires a strong management consulting background, the ability to independently drive delivery, manage client stakeholders, and contribute meaningfully to business development and internal practice development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engagement & Workstream Leadership
  • Lead small Operational Readiness and Ramp Up engagements end-to-end, or manage defined workstreams within complex, multi-stream programmes
  • Own workplans, deliverables, timelines, and quality assurance for assigned engagements or workstreams
  • Translate client objectives into structured readiness and ramp up approaches aligned to operational and business milestones
  • Proactively manage risks, issues, and dependencies across people, process, systems, governance, and operating model dimensions
  • Client Delivery & Execution
  • Design and deliver:
    • Operational Readiness strategies and execution roadmaps
    • Ramp up and stabilisation plans
    • Readiness assessments and gap analyses
    • Lead the development of high quality client outputs, including:
      • Executive level presentations and steering committee packs
      • Integrated workplans, dashboards, and progress reports
      • Facilitate client workshops, readiness reviews, and decision making forums
      • Work closely with client operations, project, and leadership teams to enable a smooth transition to stable operations and early performance improvement
  • Stakeholder & Client Management
  • Act as a day to day client lead for small engagements or workstreams
  • Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders at operational and management levels
  • Communicate clearly, confidently, and pragmatically, translating complexity into actionable insights
  • Business Development & Commercial Contribution
  • Support and lead aspects of business development, including:
    • Shaping scopes of work and pricing for small engagements
    • Developing proposals, case studies, and client presentations
    • Identifying follow on and expansion opportunities within existing engagements
    • Contribute to the evolution of the Operational Readiness & Ramp Up value proposition

5. Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Provide on the job coaching and direction to Consultants and junior team members
  • Review deliverables and ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to consulting standards
  • Contribute to the development of methodologies, tools, templates, and thought leadership
Experience & Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 5-8 years' experience in management consulting, advisory, or professional services
  • Availability to travel as required to support client engagements at project sites, including international locations.
  • Leading small consulting engagements or discrete workstreams
  • Operational Readiness and ramp up to stable operations
  • Operating model design and operational transitions
  • Demonstrated experience across both delivery and business development support
  • Complex operating industries (e.g. mining, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing) is strongly preferred
  • Strong structured problem solving and analytical capability
  • Advanced stakeholder management and facilitation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including executive level storytelling
  • Ability to independently plan, execute, and close consulting work
  • Commercial acumen and an opportunity spotting mindset
  • Strong delivery discipline with attention to detail and quality
  • Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions
