Job PurposeTo support the department with academic lecturing to students and assessment of various subject areas in Diagnostic Ultrasound at BSc level, undertake research and supervision/co-supervision of postgraduate students, contribute to curriculum development and review, as well as facilitating and coordination of work-integrated learning.
Job Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceMinimum requirements for Senior Lecturer:
- A Doctoral degree in Radiography (Diagnostic Ultrasound) or equivalent qualification.
- At least four (4) years relevant lecturing experience in Higher Education and/or five (5) years clinical experience in a diagnostic ultrasound.
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Sonographer, Independent practice.
- Current and updated Continuous Professional Development portfolio.
- A record of postgraduate student supervision and publications in accredited journals.
- A postgraduate qualification in Higher Education (recommended)
- Experience in clinical supervision of Ultrasonography students (recommended)
- Experience in specialised ultrasound imaging (recommended)
Preference will be given to applicants with lecturing experience.
Minimum requirements for Lecturer:
- A Master's degree in Radiography (Diagnostic Ultrasound) or equivalent qualification.
- At least two (2) years lecturing experience at higher education institution and/or four (4) years' clinical experience in Diagnostic Ultrasound.
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Ultrasonographer, independent practice.
- Current and updated Continuous Professional Development portfolio.
- Experience in clinical supervision of Ultrasonography students (recommended)
- A postgraduate qualification in Higher Education (recommended)
- Experience in specialised ultrasound imaging (recommended)

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities- Lecturing to students and conducting assessments of various subject areas in Diagnostic Ultrasound at BSc level.
- Conduct clinical teaching and training in Diagnostic Ultrasound, including tutorials, practical demonstrations, and assessments at all levels, covering all relevant areas within Diagnostic Ultrasound and liaison with clinical facilities in which work-integrated learning takes place.
- Partake in clinical teaching for the Provincial Department of Health, Western Cape Government, and private practices.
- Assist with the coordination of the Diagnostic Ultrasound programme and liaison with clinical facilities in which work-integrated learning takes place.
- Academic and clinical programme planning and management, inclusive of associated organisation and administrative duties.
- Participate in Curriculum development and ongoing quality and programme review.
- Building partnerships with industry and communities through e.g. service-learning projects
- Participate in research and supervision/ co-supervision of Master's students (for lecturer position) and Doctoral students (for Senior lecturer position).
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise academic activities.
- Identify at-risk students, develop intervention strategies, and monitor student progress.
- Be involved and assist with quality assurance and regulatory body accreditation.
- Conduct research and contribute towards departmental research output.
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the head of department.
