Tractor Driver

A tractor driver is an active team member who provides a service to the operations of the waste water treatment plant by operating a tractor and various implements in a safe, cost-effective manner to dispose of waste and sludge, control the growth of grass and weed and moving equipment on the site.

1. Operational Effectiveness
   • Keep tractors and implements clean from oil, dirt and other material to spot faults during inspections
   • Select the correct implements for the various tasks to ensure effective operation
   • Operate all equipment according to operating instructions to ensure efficient and lasting service
   • Inspect vehicle and implements and report deviations to ensure availability, proper functioning and safety
2. Cost Control Effectiveness
   • Record number of hours worked to ensure timeous services
   • Record consumption of fuel and lubrication to control costs
   • Plan and organize activities for effective use of resources
3. Service Effectiveness
   • Remove bins with rags, grit, garden and domestic refuge to designated areas for safe and environmentally acceptable disposal
   • Apply chemicals/poison according to the safe handling procedures and approved schedules for pest/weed/odor/hygienic control in designated areas
   • Cut grass in designated areas on the property with a slasher to ensure aesthetically acceptable, safe and risk free environment
   • Plough sludge lands to control pollution of surface run-off, prevent erosion, control veld fires and weed
   • Move equipment to designated areas as required by SeniorProcess Controller for various tasks
4. Team Effectiveness
   • Plan and arrange leave and time-off in consultation with team leader and fellow workers to ensure sustainable flow of work
   • Plan work in consultation with team leader and fellow workers to ensure assistance as required
5. Safety Effectiveness
   • Observe all safety rules, procedures, signs and instructions to prevent incidents related to health and safety

Grade 10 and tractor and trailer operations as well as mechanical knowledge to perform vehicle/tractor inspections.
