Assist the Plant Health Forepersons with duties that may include applying fertilizers, applying pesticides, participating in irrigation activities, and identifying plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers. Apply fertilizers to plants according to formulas determined by supervisor. Mix, load, and apply pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides to trees and shrubs or botanical crops according to instructions from supervisor. Clean and maintain the equipment to insure proper functioning. Report information about plants and plant growth. Assist in operating and maintaining irrigation equipment and climate control systems, assist with the direction of weeding crews. Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to fertilize, spray, or mix nursery soil. Assist the Production Forepersons with the direction of grading crews, planting crews, growing crews, and maintenance crews of containerized plant material. Assist the Shipping Forepersons in the accurate and timely shipments of nursery products, working with the Inventory Forepersons and Central Dispatch, organizing and distributing the necessary paperwork, assisting with the direction of order pulling crews, loading crews, and tagging crews. Monitor safety practices. Fill in with general labor when needed. Assist with time keeping and work schedule maintenance. Maintain records to measure productivity and help ensure processes are maintained. Train new and existing employees to maintain maximum productivity and safety. Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that structures are operating efficiently. May perform other job duties pursuant to 45-2092.00, Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery and Greenhouse.
