Collaborative Librettist Needed for Original Christmas Cantata (2026 Season) I am a composer working on a commissioned Christmas cantata for a local church, to be premiered during the 2026 Christmas season. I am seeking a collaborative librettist to write the book/text for the work, blending original secular poetry, traditional Christmas carols, and the Christian Nativity story into a cohesive, dramatically compelling narrative that can be set to music. This project is ideal for a writer who enjoys working closely with a composer, understands how text functions in musical settings, and is comfortable honoring tradition while crafting something fresh and expressive. Scope of Work & Deliverables The librettist will: • Develop a clear narrative arc for a fulllength Christmas cantata (approx. 25–35 minutes of music) • Write original poetic and lyrical texts that: • Interweave with traditional Christmas carols (public domain and/or specified titles) • Support and illuminate the Nativity story • Balance sacred meaning with accessible, human, and emotionally resonant language • Shape text with musical setting in mind (clarity, rhythm, singability) • Collaborate on structural decisions (solo vs. chorus moments, narration, pacing) • Revise text based on musical and dramatic needs Final deliverables may include: • A complete libretto/book • Sectionbysection text aligned to musical numbers Required Skills & Experience Required: • Strong writing skills in poetry and/or lyric writing • Comfortable working with Christian themes, especially the Nativity story • Ability to write with musical sensitivity (phrasing, repetition, clarity) • Openness to feedback and revision in a collaborative creative process Preferred (but not required): • Previous experience with librettos, song lyrics, choral texts, or theater • Familiarity with church music, choral works, or sacred performance traditions • Experience adapting or responding to existing texts (e.g., hymns, poetry) How We'll Work Together This will be a collaborative, dialogue-driven process.
